Birds of the same flock

Her name is Annie and she is close to Paul’s age. She is in many ways a remarkable creature. Strong, self-sufficient, passionate in her likes and dislikes, loves and hates.

Paul is totally unselfconscious, always dressed for an event. His attire gives him the air of a simple but lovable one with a prize winning smile. On his face is the remainder of a scar from a very long time ago.

Lets write a love story about them.

bodyguards letting a couple inside the night club
the bass music is getting louder as the door opened

Annie: Why are you dressed up like a Victor’s secret model for this who-knows-where shady club?

Paul: (chuckles) You crack me up. Its a special night here, Annie.

Annie: Is this like yet another boring places of yours?

Paul: Ah shut up and come.

Annie: Food better be good.

they find an open spot to sit by the bartender to drink all night long

Paul: Of all things from tonight, I think you’d thank me for this spot.

Annie: Only if the cocktails were good.

Paul: Ohh, it is going to be. BTW tonight is on me.

Annie: You always make me spend fortunate on you when you come back to the town. Looks like its my vasool (payback) time.

after two LIT drinks

Annie: Why there are so many goofy people like you here? And how come there are more ladies than gents here?

Paul: You ask too many questions.

Annie: As if you were always here for me. You don’t even visit me often.

Paul: Oh my butterscotch cake! Forget everything tonight. Let it gooo.

he gently pushes her towards the dance floor
she sees the crowd and comes back to her chair

Paul: I see. You’re right these boys are awful and they’re no way close to my moves.

Annie: If the father of narcissism had a clone and they both had a child. Even that child wouldn’t be as narcissistic as you.

Paul: So you tellin’ me I’m the best of them?

Annie: I wonder why my parents like you.

she looks around trying to spot some good dancers

Annie: Hey hey, look at her. The one with the ponytail and tattoo surrounded by…. are those girls dressed up like the powerpuff girls? Strange. Anyway she got good moves.

Paul: Annie, you always spot great girls.

he leaves his chair and goes towards her right away

Annie: (speaks to herself) Shouldn’t have told him. I keep losing the good ones to him.

Annie: (sighs) This is going to be a long night my long island tea (LIT).

Paul and the tattoo girl are nowhere at Annie’s sight. After a while, they both come towards Annie

Paul: Hey Annie, meet Trintrin. Trintrin, meet Annie.

Annie: (nervous) Hello Trin..trin..

Paul: I said you got some homegrown sick moves. Trin says she wants to dance with you.

Annie: (accidentally burps) Me? she wants to dance with me?

Trintrin: Yes, girl. He actually put a bet on you.

Annie: Paul, you know I can’t do this with so much people around.

Trintrin pulls her swiftly to the dance floor
Annie still nervously moves with Trintrin

Paul: (shots) Hey DJ, play Girls Like You.

Its Annie’s all time favorite. It is getting her pumped up now. Annie starts to make her sick moves. And boy, is Trintrin challenged by this. They both soon come under the spotlight. The powerpuff girls and other weirdly dressed girls (according to Annie) from the crowd are joining in with them. The rest of crowd leaves the stage for them to whistle, scream and cheer.

Annie becomes the queen of the night. She never felt so in sync with people ever before.

All the girls decide to make a room for the queen at their special spot in the club. They raise a toast to this hidden gem of their small town.

Annie senses new happiness and looked around for Paul.

Trintrin: (kisses Annie on her cheek) Hey queen, here is your Paul. And you, Mr Paul, you won your bet.

Paul: Like always.

Annie: (smiles) Its always a game for you, man.

Paul: Well, Annie, not tonight.

Paul stands up among the ladies to raise a toast for Annie

Paul:

Hello ladies! I come to this town.

(hestitates) My hometown.

I come here often. Even Annie doesn’t know. Its far from the main town. So peaceful and full of amazing folks like you. Wonder how people don’t know about this. Infact Annie called this place a who-knows-where shady club.

I’ve seen you all often come here and dance so lightly and spontaneously. But Annie never had such a place. She has been dancing behind her closet room ever since she saw this one girl dancing so passionately at our school when she was like 10–12 yrs old. I’ve witnessed her shear determination to dance, even from such young age on her own. But her parents decided not to let her go to any dance class she liked. Why? Because they wanted to raise a foolproof bride that this society finds flawless and a son to be this perfect providing man for life. I used to get jealous of her when she was like 15–16. You’ve no idea how well she moved even then. A friend of her. Her best friend, Leila. She used to try dancing with Annie at her room but most of the times she sat down to admire her. I was 18 and I dated Leila. Annie was mad. REALLY MAD. I was young and stupid. I broke up with Leila so badly and harshly that infuriated Annie.

So, ladies, this scar on my forehead is the result of the infuriated Annie. She hit me with a hot cooker lid when I told her the news at the kitchen.

Thats when I realised something different about her.

I happened to meet Leila recently. Happily married. Gifted with a lovely daughter. She then told me how Annie been struggling to tell her parents that she is a lesbian. Annie is 25 now, and I saw that she felt there is no place for her in this town. In this world. I wanted to get her out of her comfort zone and mindset, and prove that she is wrong and the world will love for who she is.

Like I planned what will happen at this weekly special LGBTQ “Late Night Ladies Night” has happened. So, thank you ladies for spontaneously coming together for Annie.

My sister.

Cheers!

Annie: (teary eyed) Thank you, brother!

She looked at him and smiled for being a sibling and a friend as one.

The next morning she came out of her closet to her parents. To the world.

So yeah Paul and Annie are siblings. Paul is now 27. He has been away from their parents for so long struggling to accept himself and his parents. Maybe a story for next time.
